With the vario insert you can individually adjust the height of the system. Depending on shoulder width and personal preferences, a higher or lower head position is perceived as comfortable. The vario insert can be found at the bottom inside of the cover, below the SILENCIUM® system and should be removed in the beginning for better acclimatization.
You can wash the outer pillow cover according to the instructions on the washing label at 60° C in a washing machine (with the cover turned inside out and the zipper closed). The inside, moisture-resistant protective cover can, if necessary, be wiped with a slightly damp cloth.
As soon as you are aware of snoring (from around 30 dB) the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® is activated and moves your head to another position until the snoring stops or the head finds a position which reduces snoring to a minimum.
The SISSEL® SILENCIUM® acts or rather reacts interactively after only a short period of snoring. If the first movement isn’t enough, the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® gently moves the head little by until the snoring stops or the head finds the position which reduces snoring to a minimum. In this extended period, the partner - depending on his/her sleep quality - might be woken. However, these arousals are extremely rare and would probably stop after a few days.
Using the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® reduces snoring significantly without causing an increase in arousals (e.g. result of a clinical study at the ENT Clinic of Mannheim University). If desired, users can record their snoring behavior using various free apps for smartphone or tablet (e.g. Sleep Talk Recorder, SnoreControl or Quit Snoring - see app store) and check the effect of the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® by comparing the recording with and without activated anti-snoring function.
The SISSEL® SILENCIUM® was developed to significantly reduce snoring. Sleep apnea, unlike snoring, is an illness which requires medical intervention. However, despite sleep apnea, the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® can positively influence your snoring.
Both SISSEL® SILENCIUM® systems will currently react to the snoring of a partner. However, the movements are so gentle that you don’t wake up and it is generally not annoying for the non-snoring partner.
SISSEL® SILENCIUM® operates with safe low-voltage (power supply: 6 V) and, due to its classification as a medical device class I (rule 12), is also suitable for use in hospitals, rehabilitation centers etc. This voltage is comparable to a clock radio and lower than the voltage of an electric blanket. This means that the electromagnetic emissions are very few indeed, especially since the electrical components (6 Volt) are in the external control unit.
Snoring is generally subject to individual health and body condition. In cases of excess weight the dilation of the soft tissue in the throat can be severely restricted. Because of this changing the position of the head can be less effective. We have nevertheless observed a significant reduction in snoring in overweight people.
Medication and large amounts of drugs which have a sedative or relaxing effect greatly increase the relaxation of soft tissue in the throat. This can lead to changing the head’s position being less effective.
This is a normal occurrence and goes away within a very short time. People adapt to the noise after only a few nights and accept it as a normal component of their new environment (like e.g. moving to an area with more traffic). Putting the control unit into the protective case reduces background noise from the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® to an almost imperceptible minimum.
The SISSEL® SILENCIUM® is a medical device that requires a period of adjustment. It can take between a few days and up to 4 weeks to become fully used to a different way of lying comfortably and to the anti-snoring system. Every night during this time you will sleep more deeply and peacefully. This mostly depends on which pillow you previously used as well as your individual condition and health.
TIP: If necessary, get used to the SISSEL® SILENCIUM® step by step. For better adjustment, we recommend using the system with deactivated anti-snoring function for min. 1 week. Furthermore, the flexible vario insert should be removed at the beginning (see question 2).
SISSEL® wishes you a relaxed sleep and quiet, restful nights!
